| 8. | What is the difference between the shortest and the quickest route?
When preparing a route, it is possible to specify that the system should calculate the journey on the basis of the criterion "Quickest route" or "Shortest route".
The criterion "Shortest route" selects the most direct road journey between the points of departure and arrival.
The criterion "Quickest route" calculates the shortest route on roads, which have the highest average speeds.
You can therefore give priority to certain types of road (highways/thruways, service roads etc.) by modifying their average speeds in the software's settings.
In Navigation mode, only the "Quickest route" setting is used.

Troubleshooting
|
| 1. | When SD Manager (or POI Manager) starts, I get an error message. What should I do?
If you get the following error message: “An error has occurred – the connection between your portable navigation system and PC could not be established. Please check your setup and that your portable navigation system is properly connected to your PC via the USB cable provided.” (Figure 1), this can be due to several reasons:
- your ViaMichelin Navigation X-930 is not connected to the PC via the USB cable supplied in the Pack
- your ViaMichelin Navigation X-930 is not switched on
- the Microsoft ActiveSync synchronization software is not installed so your X-930 and PC cannot talk to each other. In this case, please install the Microsoft ActiveSync software (see How do I install ViaMichelin Navigation and its applications on my computer?)
1- Click on “OK” to close the error message (Figure 1). Check the USB connection between the ViaMichelin Navigation X-930 and your PC. Then switch it on using the “On/Off” button on the top of the device - your X-930 screen display should indicate that it is now connected to your PC (see Figure 2).

| 2. | How do I install ViaMichelin Navigation software on my X-930?
Before using your ViaMichelin Navigation X-930 for the first time, make sure that you have charged it completely or connect it to an electrical supply by using the cigarette lighter cable or the adapter plug.
ViaMichelin Navigation software comes as a “Plug & Drive” solution. Simply switch on your ViaMichelin Navigation X-930, using the On/Off button on top. As shown in Figure 1, the screen will instruct you on the next step - insert the SD card supplied in the Pack. ViaMichelin Navigation software will then install itself automatically on your X-930 – just follow the instructions on the screen.

| 3. | What do I do if my GPS is not recognized by my PC?
The ViaMichelin Navigation X-930 pilots are included with the ViaMichelin Navigation DVD-ROM supplied. These pilots enable the PC to communicate with your portable GPS.
You will then be able to use the POI Manager or SD Manager software packages.
POI Manager: Software, which exports Points of Interest to your portable GPS.
SD Manager: Maps and software restoration program.
1 - Insert the ViaMichelin Navigation DVD-ROM into your PC.
2 - The installation of ViaMichelin Navigation will start automatically. When the installation language request appears, click on “Cancel”.
3 - Connect your ViaMichelin Navigation X-930 to one of the USB ports on your PC, using the USB cable supplied, then switch on your portable GPS. Your PC will detect the ViaMichelin Navigation X-930. (Figure 1)
Figure 1
Note: If your PC fails to detect the ViaMichelin Navigation X-930, we recommend that you insert the cable into another USB port and check whether any other peripherals connected by the USB ports, such as a pocket PC, palm, web cam or printer might be disturbing the connection of the ViaMichelin Navigation X-930 to your PC.
4 - Click on “Next” (Figure 2)
Figure 2
5 - Mark the “Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)” option, then click on “Next”. (Figure 3)
Figure 3
6 - Mark the “CD-ROM drives” option only, and then click on “Next”. (Figure 4)
Figure 4
7 - The wizard will find the “gda_series.inf” pilot on the DVD, click on “Next”. (Figure 5)
Figure 5
8 - Installation of the pilots is in progress.
9 - The wizard has completed the installation of the pilot, click on “Finish”. (Figure 6)
Figure 6
If the 'Digital Signature Not Found' window appears, this message means that the pilot has not yet been validated by Microsoft and has therefore not received a logo certifying its compatibility with Windows. Do not worry, because ViaMichelin gives you an assurance of compatibility with the Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems. Installation of the ViaMichelin program will not damage your computer and you can continue the installation procedure by clicking on “Yes”.
It is likely that installation of the pilot cannot continue if Windows is not configured to read the digital signature if the Unsigned driver installation behavior and Unsigned non-driver installation behavior are Do not allow installation. To resolve this problem, temporarily (for the period of installation), configure the pilots on “Silently succeed”
10 - On your Windows desktop, click on “Start”, then on “Run”, then type “MMC” in the command window and click on “OK”. (Figure 7)
Figure 7
11 - On the scroll-down menu, click on “Console”, then on “Add/Remove Snap-in”. (Figure 8)
Figure 8
12 - Click on “Add”, select “Group Policy” and click on “Add”. (Figure 9)
Figure 9
13 - Click on “Finish”, “Close” and “OK”. (Figure 10)
Figure 10
14 - On the current console window, go to the following folders: Console Root / Local Computer Policy / Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Local Policies / Security Options
15 - Do a right-hand mouse click on “Unsigned driver installation behavior” and press “Security”. (Figure 11)
Figure 11
16 - Scroll down the “Local policy setting” line and select “Silently succeed” then click on “OK”. (Figure 12)
Figure 12
Do the same for the “Unsigned non-driver installation behavior” line.
17 - Close the console window and then click on “No” if a window asks you if you want to save on “Console1”.
